Best known as the site where St. John was inspired to write the Book of Revelation which is why the island is one of the most religious places in Greece. The monastery of Apocalypsis above Chora attracts many visitors nowadays. The monastery is surrounded by strong walls and looks like a fortress.
Patmos is the meeting point of cosmopolitans & intellectuals. It remains delightfully unspoiled island, yet it has still developed a good tourist infrastructure. Greek taverns with fresh fish, good restaurants and atmospheric bars will entertain during your holiday. The most picturesque village is Chora, but the port Skala is the busiest spot on the island. There are 20 beaches – both pebble beaches and sand beaches. Nudists go to Psili Ammos. Very nice and organized beaches are located on the northern side of the island, such as Agriolivado and Livadi Geranou. The island is quite windy which make it a good location for windsurfing.
